Wells Action was formed in January 2002 by the amalgamation of the May Fair Committee and the 800th Charter Committee.

The Great Wells Weather Lottery was launched at Christmas 2002 to bring extra funding into Wells Action. All our funding is used solely for the benefit of the people of the City and surrounding villages. It helps finance annual events such as the May Fair (Monday 7th May, 2007); the annual Christmas Party at the Town Hall, for Infant and Junior school children, the Spring Bash and Christmas Bingo. Wells Action supports, with donations and volunteers, other organisations which raise funds for local charities.  These include Wells Carnival; Wells Police Ball;  Wells in Bloom and the Mayor’s Charity. Wells Action has also been the organisers of major Wells celebrations.  These have included the 800th anniversary of the King John Charter, the Queen's Golden Jubilee and BBC Music Live. We also provided support for the HMS Somerset Freedom celebrations.
